How to Fix Windows Live Mail Error ID 0x800CCC0E

When you try to send email messages with Windows Live Mail, you may receive a Windows Live Mail error id 0x800ccc0e error message that resembles the following:

The connection to the server has failed.

Subject 'test smtp'
Server: 'smtp.regmender.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 10060

The most common causes of these error messages are problems with Internet connectivity and account settings configured incorrectly, some ISPs block TCP/IP port 25 except to their own SMTP mail server. So first make sure that you are connected to the Internet and your account settings are correct. If you still have problems after you have verified your email server settings with your email service provider, the following steps provide advanced troubleshooting.

  • Try to configure your Firewall/Anti-virus software to allow access to your email client
  • Change the SMTP port to 465
    1. Open Windows Live Mail, go to the "Tools" menu, and click on "Accounts...".
    2. Select account and click properties.
    3. click on the "Advanced" tab, and adjust the settings to reflect the settings in the image below:
      1. Outgoing mail (SMTP): 465
        This server requires a secure connection (SSL): checked
        Incoming mail (POP3): 995
        This server requires a secure connection (SSL): checked

    4. Apply the change and send again.
